Mark (wannabe) actually brought back a 2012 subframe assembly from the factory last month and we (GoFasters) are already working on a replacement plate for quicker access. Give it some time and we'll come up with a solution.

IMO the battery box and slide in air filter are changes that will be needed as GasGas goes the "Direct Inject" route and "the cart obviously got a little ahead of the horse" as GasGas has chosen to stick with a carburator for 2012and went back to the conventinal air filter design.

Historically GasGas sticks with a basic subframe, airbox, frame, etc. configuration for three to five years and I would bet DI will be in place by then and the battery box and slide in airfilter design will then pay dividends.

Hey looks familiar to what we were working on.

Its funny how there's always a similiar solution to most obvious problems.

I finally got our first 2012 that had been air freighted in today and assembled it. I took the seat off and then removed the battery box just to see how difficult it was going to be. It would be a PITA to remove on the trail but, with normal hand tools in the shop, it wasn't that big of a deal. When the bbox is removed, the opening in the top of the air box is larger than the box on the older bikes so the filter is easier to reach. With electric tools it's a quick removal to get to the air filter.
The only time this thing will be a problem will be in dusty 24 hour race....
The bbox is a structural part of the frame that ties the sides of the subframe together. Also holds the seat down.
The bike is reallly sweet!

I may look in to the battery box mod, but I'm not going to sweat the issue.

I'll use a TwinAir dust cover anyway.
