One could imagine a rather more expensive design where the shaft and plate have a mating spline instead of the weld ...

Same design used in almost every dirt bike,, that said weld it.. tig is best.. I did mine. well I had a friend do it for me for a 6 pack. It never failed again and his welds were way better than factory. I had similar issues with other brands before. Not a GG specific thing but it quickly can ruin your day. Cheap to fix and fast to fix, way faster than waiting for a new part.
