you lower first gear you lower all the gears, gassers have a taller first gear than most.

Excellent chart Swazi.thanks.
Just an experiment to see how it works.Alot of ktm 300 guys run a 14 front(but they are a gear short).Theory is it spaces out the gears, longer 1st/2nd for smoother riding in tight stuff ,holds a gear longer through corners & less wheel spin on hills.
Definetly wouldn't want to go lower,it would make 1st almost useless except for pulling KTM's out of bogs.I will let you know how it goes.

Interesting - don't you often wish for a lower 1st gear when you are slipping and sliding up a moss covered rocky river bed, or a root infested wet clay single track with 3 learner housewives on xr200's in front of you?
As for KTM's in bogs - I prefer to ride over them, using them for traction. If you do it right they will still be there for the next lap and you can use them again. If you pull them out they will just roar off in font of you, shower you with crap, and hold you up.

Took the bike out with a 46 rear sprocket,to the Tarawera forest ride.Really liked it.Pulled longer through corners so didn't need to swap gears in tight stuff as much. The only down side was on long sandy hill climbs it could lose some revs.Just needed a little clutch to get it up in the revs again.Tarawera is a mostly flowing track so suited this gearing, could be a different story on some real gnarly single track.
