I think I know some of the tests and articles you are referring to, I could be wrong but are they not performed with castor oil. I think we have come along way since some of this testing has been done. Have been a mechanic for thirty years and have seen a lot of this is better than that but not a ton of proof one way or another.
I have a fast A rider buddy that has been running 100 to 1 opti 2 in his Honda cr250 for 8 years with no problems and the thing looks brand new inside.
Just my 2 cents.

The Maxima test:

http://www.maximausa.com/tech-tips/oil-migration.php

No mention of type of oil.

Regardless, more oil provides better ring sealing and heat transfer, there have been dyno tests on that but I do not have the links handy.

Whatever works and your comfy with. For me its 36:1 Dominator. I see no reason to skimp on oil, so what if its over oiled in some conditions? No spooge with a normal silencer. This summer I had a radiator problem where my bike ran out of coolant, and ran hot for miles. Teardown revealed no problems. I have 100 hr pistons I have removed that still have most of the moly coating on them.

Klotz R50 for me. Super high film strength, runs clean and smells better than any other pre-mix!

Back when I was a kid riding a Bultaco Pursang, I ran the Klotz Techniplate in the metal quart can, at 16:1. I think it was one of the first true synthetics, burned very clean even at that ratio with a sloppy Bing carb.

Not sure if there really is a bad oil anymore. I have been running Golden Spectro for years and years. And when they came out with the SX line switched to that. Has worked great for me!!!! Was told by and important guy years ago that he woundn't put Belray MCI on his chain! A lot of guys where I live like Amsoil in their bikes and snowmobiles...

They still have 100 hours use left in them. Let's start a bidding war for Glens' used pistons and rings. I'll open at $20 each.

BelRay H1r in my old RS125 road racers, dyno'd at 44hp and got 900km out of a piston and still measured up fine ( checked every 250k re-ring ). They spent pretty much their whole lives in the upper rev range.
Ec300 more of a lugger, have had awesome results with Valvoline in the past , am running their 2 stroke "racing". Good clean burn, good plug colour and most importantly all internals retain a good coating @ 40:1.

After Mobil dropped their MX2T I tried, and continued to use, Klotz R50. It reminds me of Bel-Ray H1-R - with a better smell
