My understanding from reading this forum is that FMF redesigned the Gnarly 4-5 years ago for more power in the mid and top when compared to the older Gnarly. I have not run one of the new FMF pipes but I ran the older ones on my 99 ec200 and 01xc300. Loved it on the 200 because it would still rev to the moon. 300 was a different story, overkill on the bottom and wouldn't rev very good at all. The old gnarly wouldn't be my first choice on a 250 either. I would rather go with a more all around pipe and boost the bottom by closing the squish(thinner base gaskets) and/or changing the timing a little. That way you easily change it back and forth to find what works best for you.
