Ec300 rattle/power valve issue

Was out on the lanes the other weekend and towards the end of the day my bikes powervalve was not activating, it was almost like hitting the limiter before the power valve/ running out of power. Inspected the actuator pin, the bearings ect and all is in tact, there was slack on the actuator so took most out allowing about 1-2mm play between the pin and the bearing cup and it improved but it's still not activating, there is also a reasonable rattle coming from what I think is the powervalve itself, has anyone experienced this issue or able to point me in the right direction? there are lots of posts in this forum about PV rattle. I have started to hear a loud rattle on my 04 EC200 but at the same time i've also noticed my bike is running really (really) rich whereas before it wasn't. I'm not sure the 2 things are connected but they both seemed to start at the same time. Most of the other posts noted the PV rattle at certain throttle positions but i could hear the same rattle in idle while revving the engine - but only some of the time. Sometimes it did not make nosie at all. Weird.

Is the power valve itself moving freely? If it is excessively carboned up it might be sticking. Something to check.

Or can rattle even the piston.

There is a chance that the actuator arm is making contact where it passes through the opening in the case. Pull the inner clutch cover, lay the bike on its side (so you do not dislodge the bearing in the centrifugal mechanism) and move the power valve by hand to check and see if the arm is making contact.

I have a 08 ec 300 and have experienced the exakt same thing.
In my case it was the power valve on the cylinder right side. The little lid behind the exhaust needs to be removed and under that a screw was unscrewed resulting in that power valve not opening, a ratteling noise and a rich condition. I mostly run a a real tight enduro trail where you don't spend much time at full throttle. But riding in more open areas I instant realised something was wrong since it did not rev at all...

I'm from Sweden so please overlook any typos.

Good info Per, I ride an ec300 2003, and have yet to have pv issues. I will keep this in mind.
