Default skid plate modification?

anyone here try cutting their skid plate under the shift lever/sprocket?? it seems to get so loaded up with mud under around the shift lever/sprocket area. i had small piece of foam under the shift lever in that space, but it didn't really help. i was thinking that cutting out the small section there would let debris fall through instead of piling up....

Not a bad idea on an alloy plate, try it. On the Hyde that is exactly where the right rear mount is. I've had pretty good results with the 2" thk Moose open cell foam packed in on that side but extending from the ignition cover to the rear.

I have found that the hyde rear mounts work best in my toolbox! On all my hyde sump guards i have replaced the rear mount with a 10mm zip tie, and i have nevver had it come off.

Having moved to GG i now also replace the front mount with the original GG mount as it has nylock nuts

My Hyde mounts are my own design and very different, its just that the molded bolt hole in the plate falls in that area stainless was talking about.

I have the Utah Cycle Sports skid plate, it has wings that extend out by the c/s sprocket. I use foam, and plenty of it in that area to keep the mud from building up. I suppose the little wings could keep some form of rocks or sticks from getting stuck in the shifter area......just thinking out loud.
