New back rim...
To begin i own a 2012 ec250e.
Got some new tires in the mail. Sent the wheels out to have them put on. With only having owned the bike for a year, and getting it used, the back wheel is pretty chewed up and bent. The shop got the tire off, but broke their machine doing it, and refuse to put the New tire back on. Option A. Try to get the tire on myself and hope it works. I mean I've been riding it how it is for a year now. I doubt it's optimal but I just like to putt around on trails. How bad is it to ride with a couple bends in the rim? Option B is send it out to have a new rim installed. But because, to my knowledge, the gasgas uses it's own spoke gapping/spacing on the hub, it's gotta be custom drilled to order. Not exactly "cheap" when the rim and spokes are gonna cost 6-700. Option C. For about $1400 I can get some custom built front AND rear wheel. Anozied hub, solid rims etc. From Australia of course shipped to the US. Or if someone has a complete rear wheel that fits, and are willing to sell it. I am interested. Otherwise I'm stuck on What to do. Any ideas? Another option is slap the old tire back on and trade it in with cash and get a 2019 |

Option D. Find a new shop.
Replacing a time is not rocket science. |

Option D through E. 4hundy sorts the problem.
Broke their machine through gross incompetence and try to blame you.. Sideways bulges can be reduced with careful use of a press which often brings things closer to round. Then soak nipples (the bikes not yours sicko) in penetrating oil and watch a YouTube clip on wheel trueing. You can repair a fair bit. I mean sometimes a rim is too far gone but its worth a play and a new skill learnt.

Ok so quick update. Went with option D since it was the easiest and cheapest option.
The 2nd shop has no issues putting it on for me. Had it done in 10 minutes. Obviusly its not the optimal setup for a race bike. But I have no plants what so ever to do anything more than play riding. Anyways thanks for the replies guys! I'll probably look into a new wheelset in the next couple months after a top end job. |
