Default 1999 EC 250 Vs. 1997 Kx 250 Vs. 2001 YZ 125

hey guys i have a 1999 EC 250 and of course my friends talk shit. My two friends have a 2001 YZ 125 and 1997 KX 250. I raced both of them on street and whipped both of there asses. hahaha heres the thing i noticed that the KX pulls in first then i got him every gear after that... The YZ does kinda the same thing but i whip its ass even worse. the real reason im posting this is to find out how much the EC 250, KX 250, And YZ 125 weighs and how much hp they have... I want to know whos bike is lighter and who has the most hp.

Jetting and piston/ring condition are major factors.

But, even the old Gassers (I test rode a '99 300) turn better than either the YZ or the KX and neither Jap motors are as good as the GG for enduro.

It's not really fair to put up YZ 125 40hp against 250's that are producing 50+hp

I would say the reason is they both pull away in 1st is probably their power delivery (rpm) the gas gas which is an enduro bike has a more torqueier engine so pulls better off the bottom.

I'd say in a 1/4 drag race the gas gas will storm of the start line with its lower rpm power spread , the motocross bikes with start to catch up with their higher rpm power spread..I rekon it would be a close run thing.

Loads of variables other than just peak hp (which is also dependant on lots of variables).

Gearing (sprocket ratios), Gearbox Ratios, Traction and Power delivery, Rider skill, just to mention a few. Basically if I have a 70hp beast and don't have the skill or ability to get the right balance or power to the ground in a low traction setup then I could get served by a lesser powered bike by a better rider and vice versa.

Not sure if the MXers are 4/5 speed boxes but they will be close ratio where the GG has a wide ratio trans. This will let them scoot through the gears quicker, but then run out of steam, unless if they've geared up using sprockets, in which they're compromising acceleration for top speed. A drag race has so many variables other than peak HP. I say throw in a few corners and add a few jumps.. The more variables the better the race!!

as mentioned above lots of variables ... don't under estimate a tiddler in the handsw of a capable rider. Power to weight ratio may make them closer than you think. I'm not a hardcore racer but I've smoked more than a few 450's, 250f's and 250 2ts off the line on my husky 144. Granted its the c class and none of us can ride but ... its 90% or more rider.

To answer part of your question for that vintage, your 250's are probably around 250#'s and the 125 is probably around 220#'s

my 08 husky 125 manual says its 203#'s dry. Oil up the motor and suspension and throw some gas in the tank, fluid in the rads and I bet its close to 220#
