Default About that Twin-Air Billet Cage...

My OEM 2011 Gasser air filter got man-handled and I broke off one of the three plastic locating tabs. As a result I splurged for the billet cage.

I've never liked how Gasser filter cages locate. I'm not so fond of KTMs, either, for that matter. I had hoped that the five billet locating pins would make the installation of the air filter cage more positive. Not really.

Worse was the the issue with the pin around the 2-O'Clock position. It rests against the back off the air boot. Not just rests, it actually keep the top-right side of the filter from seating firmly. It is the a good thing my last two races were held in wet conditions. I think a dust-ride would've killed my motor.

Having little in the way of options, I decided to cut off about an eight-inch off the offending pin and then file and polish it.

I think this will do the job.

Do any of your pins touch the back of the boot?

No. They all fit inside nicely. Understand though, I do usually have to stand on the opposite kickstand side and somewhat akwardly feel around edge with both hands at the same time and make sure it is oriented correctly. I'll admit it was kinda like changing a tire. Much easier once you get the technique. You verified a misfit while fitting without filter?

Yep. With and without.
It presses very firmly against the boot. Perhaps my boot is misshapen. But I had no choice -- I now have one stubby pin.
