Front pipe vibrations?
Hi
Has anyone tried the aluminium cylinder 'stubb' from trialendurodirect? According to their webpage it should stop annoying vibrations, which I have a lot of in my front pipe. Pressing my boot against the front pipe stops the annoying sound, but its hard to drive fast with one foot constantly on the frontpipe Any solution to the vibrations or any experiences with the aluminium cylinder stubb would make me happy? Best regards, Jakob

My 2001 had an aluminum pipe flange. It would get damaged when the pipe would get hit. It now has a steel LTR flange.
GG later went back to steel flanges. My '06 has a steel flange. When the pipe o-rings go bad the pipe vibration goes up. I use Viton o-rings as they hold up to high temp better. I also use a different size than stock to get a better seal: 43 x 3.5 mm. (Stock are 44 x 3 mm). I put the o-rings in the grooves and then put grease on the outer surface of the o-rings and the inner surface of the pipe. The pipe is hard to push all the way on by hand so I then install the springs which slowly pull the pipe into location.

GasGas have alternated between steel and aluminium exhaust stubs. I have only ever used the ali ones and don't have vibration problems - of course that doesn't mean I would've with steel.

Good advice from Eric. Also, what I do now is use silicone instead of grease on the o-rings. One of my pipes must be just slightly tweaked at the header and tends to eat the o-rings quicker from a side load. The silicone helps keep things sealed and acts as a lube while fitting the pipe. If all is well though as is with my other pipe, grease should be fine.

Where the heck are you finding 43 x 3.5mm viton o-rings? I've checked all of my usual local industrial suppliers. Most don't carry metric o-rings and few have Viton. I can get pretty close by converting to inches, but not in Viton, only Buna-N. TIA, Ross Neither Grainger nor McMaster-Carr list a 3.5mm Viton in 43mm.

I cross thread, locktite and tack weld all the bolts on my bike.
This ensures they can't come loose. I also weld the exhaust to the motor.

Thanks Eric,
I'll give them a call. I just picked up some FMF "kit" for a Honda CR 250R with 2 springs and 2 o-rings at the local cycle accessory shop. 10 bucks!! I'm thinking I should be able to get at least a 25 pack for that.

In case anyone dredges this up in a search...
Air Oil Products did have the 43 X 3.5mm Viton 0-rings in stock. They only had 6 and were priced at 3 bucks apiece plus change... I was kinda hoping to buy bulk at a better price, but 3 bucks is still better than the FMF "kit" option at 10 bucks... Thanks Eric
