Default 2017 ec300 choke issues

Gasgas newby here. Loving it so far but still learning! Has anyone else had an issue with the choke cable being to short so that the choke was constantly held at a partly open position? I have recently purchased an 2017 ec300 and am just ironing out a bunch of small issues I have had with it, mainly carb related. So ended up figuring the choke was staying partially open causing various issues of course. Seems there is no adjustment from the lever to the carb, thought outer may have been stretched somehow but this doesn?t appear to have happened. Ended up machining the plastic nut at the carb end to allow it to screw in further and let the choke seat properly. Wow what a difference!

Hello, and welcome to the GG world!

What we usually do is to remove the choke cable alltogether. Just replace it with a choke pull knob directly on the carb.

Something like this one, just make sure that you get the correct one for your carb.:

So I guess this is a common issue then?

Yes, it is. The cable will get rusty and filled with dirt over time, and the choke will be unable to close / turn off. Poor running is the result.
