Default Backfiring

The other day I was having a drag with a wr400 on my (obviously superior)fse400. I won the race (how could i lose!) but as I was shifting fast when I got off the gas it would backfire. OK, could it be just dumping fuel into it causing the problem, or is this a common issue? Is there a quick fix? Do I need to re map it(somehow, somebody tell me how), or does it need head work, cams and a big bore kit?!

When I got my '06FSE450, it would also backfire under deceleration, as well as let the header pipe glow cherry red in almost no time. I had the trim adjusted by the dealer (using their laptop and software) to around 45 (which lets the bike run richer through the rev range) and it had much better bottom end pull, as well as curing the deceleration backfire and glowing header. If your dealer doesn't have the software, apparently some models of Ducati use the same engine management system from Magneti Marelli (15P on the end of the model). Most of the guys on this forum have also had their trim adjusted, resulting in better overall running. I'm almost 100% sure this will solve your problem. Let us know how you get on.
