Attention: AMSOIL 0W-40 users

One big question for you: Why do you use their 0w-40 (AFF) and not their 10w-30 (MTC) in your Gas Gas two-stroke?

I've read most of the "oil threads" here and I see that the AMSOIL users here are using the 0w-40. Got me thinking, so I went to the AMSOIL web site and started looking around for oils for my bikes. I picked the 10w-30, that's why I'm asking about their 0w-40.

Seems to get along with the clutch very well and shifts good.

I may try it at some point but right now I'm using ATF type F which works fine and is dirt cheap.

The GG clutch has an extra plate set and tends to drag with heavier oil, so we have found that a good, lightweight synthetic is best. The 0-40W Amsoil and Rotella 5-40W are the top choices. ATF works OK in a lot of bikes, but in my '03 it shifted a bit rough and generally felt a little thin. Never tried it in my '07. The trick is finding good lightweight oils without the friction modifiers. I think Amsoil also makes a heavier racing ATF that may be worth a shot, but considering the cost its hard to beat the Rotella for most bikes.

the Rotella and Amsoil 0w-40 seemed to work exactly the same for me. In my new bike I have a Rekluse clutch, so that changes the game. I'm now running Dumonde Tech tranny oil. It's ridiculously expensive at $12 per liter. For and experiment I may try ATF. If the bike still shifts butter smooth like it does now, I'll run ATF after that.

Well I was not trying to start an oil thread here. I did search some of the oil threads here and found some of the people use AMSOIL 0w-40. So I just wanted input from AMSOIL 0w-40 users and why they chose the 0w-40 over the other AMSOIL oil's like the 10w-30 or 10w-40 to use in their GAS GAS EC's.

Tommie the AMSOIL 0-40w oil that I and others here on the forum have used with great success is one that is designed for and labeled as 4stroke motorcycle oil. As a 4stroke motorcycle oil it has an additive package that is compatible with transmissions and wet clutches. Car oils have different additives one of which can be friction modifiers that is too slippery for wet clutches.
If you're looking for something besides ATF that's easy to find Walmart has Rotella full synthetic 5-40w for $19 a gallon and it seems to work as well as anything for a lot of us. I run it around 15 hours before oil changes.

Thanks, but I was looking at The Amsoil 10w-30. Money is no object when it comes to my bikes. I only want the best for them since I can not afford to buy a new bike each year. I run the 10w30 in my Husky's and i'm looking real hard at this 07 GasGas 200ec in MI. (tax man is smiling at me this year for once)

The 10w-30 should work great. If you experience clutch drag, then you could search out the 0w-40. That's the only reason to use it, or the Rotella, is because of clutch drag. Other than that, anything goes. On the newer bikes I'm not sure it's an issue.
