Default reed modification question???

I have this mod. on my 300 and these plates came unglued when I pulled the cage out. Has anyone seen this before or does anyone know what type of glue to use to hold these pieces in place? They were glued to the sides of the cases with the block sliding in between them. Looks like they used some kind of epoxy or something before but not sure.

That looks like an expensive engine failure waiting to happen. I would leave them off.
