Rear spring size
So my 2005 EC has allways sat pretty high, compared to other bikes. Allthought this suits my 6'3" frame it also makes the bike really agile, bit too much in high speed sections. I checked the rear spring and its an ohlins:
00596 10/52 L344 I think 344 is the length, is this a standard spring?? Cheers Andy |

i'm guessing that you have a .52 kg spring on your bike with a ton of preload wound into your rear shock to hold up your 6'3" frame. I can only assume that at your height, you weigh well over 200 lbs before your geared up? I'm 195 lbs before gear and i'm running a .56 shock spring and .47 fork springs with approx 5mm of preload on either end. strong ( not big/ or harsh) springs is my choice of the way to go, as they hold you up in the top half of your suspensions travel most of the day so you actually have 10 or 11 inches of travel available when you need it, with a smooth and supple ride ,and still have the ability to suck up the really hard hits when you need it. i'm thinking that you may have way to light/soft of springs for your weight, and until you get the right springs to hold up your weight, you will be just chasing your tail trying to set up your bike to be as good as it can be.

I'm around 200 lb kitted up. I will double check preload. Its definitely not a comfortable ride and sits really high so something is off. Thanks for the reply. I'll post back with findings......

bally123, your kitted up and 6 ft 3 " tall and 200 lbs?? around here, a camel back a few tools, boots and helmet and gear weighs 25 to 35 pounds so if your bare ass nekkid and 165 lbs before gear and 6'3" tall you just may have the right springs for your weight, but im thinking that your asking questions because your not happy with the way your bike is set up in its present form.

memphis is right on with the recommendation of .58 kg for a rear spring, but in order to balance your bike from front to rear go with .48 or .50 springs in the front. strong springs does not equal harsh and a rough ride, in fact just the opposite, you will get a smooth and supple ride most of the day,and enough support from your springs to suck up the hardest impacts that you will hit over the days ride, and still keep you uprite and on track for the day.

I recommended the .45-.50 progressive springs because that is what Richard set me up with and I am nearly identical in size as the OP. This is also the same springs Rod has in his demo bikes. They work great and hold you up in the stroke nice while remaining plush in the slow stuff. Then when it gets rough the variable rate starts to shine. Trust me they are perfect for these bikes Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
