I believe this meets the requirements for sparks:
1) Single exciter winding on the stator plus wires
2) Pulse trigger outside of the flywheel plus wires
3) CDI plus wires
4) Ignition coil plus wires
5) High tension lead plus spark plug
6) Grounds for the engine and coil etc.

This is not true unless the 2012 wiring is different than the 2011 wiring. I have also had the key switch apart so I can confirm it only has the functions that I mentioned above.

Nowheelies, I'm very busy at the moment, but I can look at the connections in more detail later on. Since the bike ran with the modified wiring, I would expect you have a bad ground or bad connection.

Don't sweat it too much! i got spark today so the wiring diagram is confirmed to work; kill switch blocks spark when it needs to, etc. in fact no wiring needs to go to the regulator to get spark.

Thanks for the help!

Jeff

Good to know it's working, did you figure out what the problem was?

TBH I don't know. I pulled the harness again and rechecked continuity, resistances, etc. On reassembly I got spark, I must not have had it connected properly or something was grounded that should have been.

Really appreciate the help,

Jeff
