hi newbie here, just popped in to say hi, on the brink of buying a gas gas 250 ec 2002 model. do you think it will be any good for work commute and play, as commute is only 2 miles a day

Welcome! An 02 250 would make a perfect 2 mile commuter. Just try to keep the front wheel on the ground while taking off from stop signs.

it was hard enough keeping the front wheel down on my zzr road bike never mind a gasser 250 :
