Whinge Whinge..
Its not just Europe! The US just gets dirt cheap bikes compared to the rest of the world. I often see second hand 2011 models for ~$5,000USD. This is currently $4,700AUD or there abouts. Talk about barrrrgain!! I brand new EC300R in Australia is RRP11,700AUD plus on road costs (rego, pre delivery, shippping, blah blah blah) say $12,000AUD all up. This equates to $12,800USD. One thing to consider though is that the US spec ones are much harder to register. Every bike into Australia complies with our standards and can be road registered without a doubt. The KTM's cost a bit more again, a Husaberg is closer to $15,000!! |

Bikes from the UK seem to represent good value to much of the rest of the world. I don't know if it is still going on, but buyers were coming over from eastern europe with articulated lorries and filling them up with bikes bought from ebay, so presumably there was a profit in the difference between here and the former soviet countries. I would say that after a bit of haggling (remember a lot of people in the uk are up to their eyeballs in household debt), an '08 to '10 EC 250 / 300 would cost in the range of GB?2000 to GB?2800. ref. Enduro News for uk used prices.
