Could have went into a "false neutral" ie, missed shift.
Since there are a lot of new parts, a simple fluid change may solve your "problem".

My uncle had said the same thing after I described what happened.
Like I said, it hasn't done it again, but I also have not ridden it hard. I've only started it up to ride it around to get it going every once in a while. It would need to be broken in.
Hopefully you're right and that's all it was.

Regardless, I'm still going to sell it. It's been sitting long enough in my dad's garage!

My uncle had it registered at one point, because he had a plate mounted on the back before he sold it to me in 01.
