Default Cold starting..

My 2007 ec 250 was proving difficult to start in the recent cold weather in the uk.
I read that this technique helps...

Choke on, fuel on, lights off, throttle closed, select 2nd gear and rock bike to turn engine over a few times.
Slowly kick engine over a couple of times then give it a proper kick keeping throttle closed.

I was VERY sceptical but to my amazement she fired 1st prod!!!

Tried it again the next day and same amazing result...fist kick and bingo.

How is this possible..?

Well those first 4 things are obvious. The fifth is akin to standing on one foot and patting your head, turn around clockwise twice.

The sixth could help pull in some mixture.
If you touch the throttle before it fires you are sabotaging the choke cct.

Update.. It appears that the important aspect when cold starting my bike is to very slowly kick it over a few times with choke on and throttle closed. Then a proper kick and she fires straight away.
Rocking the bike in gear seems to have the same effect as slowly kicking it over.
Those of you familiar with 2 strokes will know this already.
It now starts reliably when cold using this technique.

Happy days.

Choke on , turn fuel on.

Angle bike over until fuel comes out the overflow.

Kick gently until you find compression.

Away it goes .

Yes.. I tried that but it was still difficult to fire up when cold.
I guess it likes to be caressed with the kick start a few times...

I used my bike Sunday first time since September.

I did have to lean it over twice, before it went .

I do turn the fuel off when not in use and the bike is in a nice garage with insulated walls .
