Bill can you expand on the details of your setup for us guys who dont have the 2 stage, pics maybee a diagram? So does this mean that the blk and orange are summed with two other existing colours going to the cdi, from the stator and is the switch proprietry, with perhaps a just simple resistor wired in?

I think what Bill is saying is that it is simply a harness issue, not a stator function issue, and that adding a wire(s) to the connector may be difficult. You could just cut and splice into the existing harness without using the connector.

Thats what i was thinking, just a splice. so why would that be a big deal? So I'm guessing then that the handlebar switch will have 3 wires. or is there a default mode and just two wires?

I'll take some pictures tomorrow. The new style connector has 2 extra pins going into the CDI. The map switch is just a simple on/off switch.

The map switch has nothing to do with the stator itself, it's just hooked up to the extra wires in the connector for the CDI. Unfortunately the connector is an integral part of the stator and it's cable. I'll post which pins it is if anybody wants to modify an early style connector. I don't have one to look at but I'm guessing it has the blank spots to install a set of pins.

Thats what I thought, no big deal. Just cut and splice into the existing harness of either style. I guess its an issue if your looking for a "plug and play" solution.

The map select circuit is just two wires going to the CDI from the switch.

If you have the two ignitions (2K-2 and 2K-3), you can add a connector set in the stator harness for an easy swap. That was my plan with my '03 250, but I wound up happy with the 2K-2 with either a 10 or 14 oz weight depending on conditions.

Here's the pictures:

I don't have an old stator but I doubt there's any wires to splice in to. If you look at your connector you'll see how small the female pins would have to be. i think this would be a difficult mod for those that aren't real handy with doing stuff like this.

I kept the plug oriented with the map switch wires on the top row. They would be counting from the left pins 5 and 6 on the top row.

Since we are talking about connectors...
If anyone wants special connectors, switches, special wiring needs, etc., I recommend that you check out Eastern Beaver. They have tons of stuff for the dualsport/adventure bike crowd. They have the nice OE plastic pin connectors, switches, waterproof connectors, all nice stuff.

Here is a link to the connectors page. Browse the menus on the left for other items:

Note: Although I did not see a direct match with our connector, I'm sure if you email them a pic then they could find it for you.

You could just cut off and trash the multiplex connecter, add bullet connecters like the pre 2 stage and your done. Looks like that connecter is there to facilitate f.i. and tps, would not be suprised if the gasgas cdi resides in other brands as well.

The connector is just a neccessity to use the newer CDI. For a stator swap, look at it as part of the CDI. If your '07+ stator goes bad, its an easy cut and splice fix using an older stator. Splice into the stator harness BEFORE any other connectors.

Matt, I always check out Eastern Beaver.
