Default Dealer Edition

What's the addition to the edition? In other words what does the DE have that a standard EC doesn't?

You should go back and read the GasGas History in the General section.

Like it says lots of history and MattR explains all.

Great info! My 03 must have been a DE. It has nickle plated sub frame Boyesen reeds Ohlins front forks and FMF pipe and silencer. I'm not sure how to identify the higher compression head. Someone told me that the ignition wires exited the case differently (front or back slot) and that's how you could tell which one you had but idk if that's correct.

I was told if the ignition went out at 10 o'clock it was the hotter and at 2 o'colck the softer.

Mine is 10 o'clock so that would fit in with the DE as well. Not knowing any of this when I bought the bike used I'm starting to feel pretty lucky about ending up with it.

So how does your DE feel? I am new to GasGas myself having just go my 2010 EC300 a few weeks ago and I am like you in the learing stages.

I'm just getting back into bikes from a long absence. I raced motocross as a kid and owned a trials bike for a short time but I can only compare my bike to the antiques of the 80's. That said, I love my GASGAS, the Ohlins amaze me, I can run over logs and rocks and roots in 3rd gear that would have sent sent me over the bars on my old bikes. The 200 when up on the pipe runs like the old 400s did yet I can throw it around like a 125. My plan is to buy another EC for my son and a trials bike for both of us to play on. As a kid I rode the prairie around Pueblo CO and I recently discovered that single track in the woods is a whole new ball game that will take me some getting used to but I can't remember having this much fun since I was a kid. When I get the right springs under me I will be able to push my bike a lot harder and then maybe I can add more useful info.

Cool thanks for the ride report on the 200. A friend of mine rode his friends 200 GasGas and loved it!

there are two different ignitions available, the 2k2 and the 2k3. the 2k3 put out more juice than the 2k2, and the 2k3 exits the side cover at the 2:00 oclock position. DE models used the smaller 2k2 ignitions.

Yup. 2K2 smaller flywheel and only puts out 60w versus somthing like 120w (?) for the 2K3 with larger flywheel.

But the ignition didn't have anything to do with the heads and diferant compression ratios. At one time I read there were differant heads too but can't remember the hows, whys, or where they were used. My guess would be the MC models had them at one time. Seems some of the XC/DE models may have been fitted with them at one time. My '00 XC250 pushes 175psi when new and I have had the squish machined on it. I think others on this board have much higher compression. I would have thought my bike may have came with the higher compression ratio but I don't think so. I have owned it since new.
