ohlins rear shock problem
hi, on my 06 ec200 i noticed the front end acting crazy when blasting over rough ground, so i adjusted all the suspension settings to standard. most of them were already standard except the rebound on the rear shock which was all the way out, so the shock rebounded really fast. after sorting this the bike was perfect for a couple of rides but then the crazy fork actions came back. i have just checked the shock rebound settings again and it has backed itself off about 15 clicks. Is this a common problem and what can i do to stop it??? thanks for the help.

I purchased an ohlins shock off of e-bay one time where you couldn't feel the detents (the clicks) on the rebound adjuster - it just spun free. I asked Les Tinius at LT-Racing why this was and he said that it had lost it's nitrogen charge and would be fine after a rebuild.
Based on this experience, I would guess that your shock needs to be serviced. I saw your registration and noticed you are in the U.K. (I am also the webmaster here) - make sure you find a place that is familiar with ohlins - it takes a little more time to bleed out the piston based reservoir versus a bladder found in japanese bikes. If you let folks here know what part of the british isles you live - they might chime in with a recommendation for you - There are alot of brits hanging out here... jeff |

Google MH Racing in Wiltshire, they specialise in Ohlins. Sure there are others.

ok, sounds like thats what i need to do as when the clicker is screwed alot of the way out (at about 30 clicks) you cant feel the rest of the clicks. im in wakefield, west yorkshire so if anyone knows of a shop near me that would do it, it would be great. cheers guys!!

My 2001 GG had the same exact concern. Low on nitrogen.
Les serviced the shock and it was good as new. |

How far do you need to turn the bottom rebound adjuster before it clicks? Does it have to be fitted on the bike and torqued up to make it click or will it click when the shock is removed from bike.

Should click all the time. They do get a bit fainter the further out you come, and thats normal. Should have at least 30 clicks out from fully seated you can definitely feel.

Probably need a good service. I had a clevis crack from the threads down on one shock. Think it was over tightened when I took it in for a service (part of warranty conditions). Ended up sourcing another clevis out of the states. Was resonably priced, and its not a real hard job for a suspension tuner. Mine was changed over no charge as part of a service.
