Gear let go, either from a flaw, or from it being jammed by something. Tough to tell by the pics, look for evidence of something loose like a circlip.

It is difficult to tell w/o examining in person, take a look at the shift forks. If the pin that rides in the shift drum came out or broke off, the fork could then slide around. Same effect as trying to be in 2 different gears at once. I have only seen this one time before, and that was over thirty years ago(Yamaha 125). Just a wild guess.

Tha's pretty ugly! I'll second what iajim said, at least the two gears at once part. Look at the gear that exploded; dogs on both sides and it failed between the two dogs in each segment, kinda like there was enough torsion between the dogs to shear the gear.

One good thing though, you still had 2/3 of your beer left afer seeing this

Yes, the general consensus is its somehow hooked 6th gr while still in a gear.6th being the smashed cog.The main shaft is bent and the selector fork looks like it's been run over by a train.Don't know if any of these gbox parts are available in this far flung part of the world. We'll see.

A crate of those beers were consumed that arvo by my miserable mate and I.
buurp.

A distinct possibility. If so it would likely be due to a circlip coming off, or maybe a shift fork that bent previously. Were there any crashes with shifter impacts before this? This is not common. Keep your eyes on the forums here part outs show up all the time. Good Luck!
