Default First Ride 2010 EC 300

Well I finally got the family holidays behind me. All the bits and pieces back on my EC. Checked it over a couple of times...just waiting for the weekend to come along.
Then tonite I came home from work to an empty house. No wife, no kids, time for Dad to sneak out the back door and go for a rip. The first one.
I had to ride down a block before I could access a trail that leads up into the hills behind our house. From there its just miles of S/T and D/T forever.
The bike is stock for jetting I'll run her a bit then get into jetting after a couple of tanks of fuel.
EC 300 This Bike is by far the best thing I have ridden.
Suspension: I have never put any thought into spending much time or moneys into my suspension. Besides trying different rebound / compression setting. And just living with the results. When I picked up my EC 300 with the new Sachs forks I was told they were pretty stiff to say the least. I've also heard nothing but praise about Les @ LT Racing and the magic he can perform. That my friends is an understatement. I can't believe the Trail Trash the forks soak up. Money very well spent. If you have a little extra coin forget about the Bling... Really, put it into your suspension you will not go wrong.
The rear is a bit stiff and will take time to break in.
Ergonomics: Pretty much spot-on for my height. 6'. I had to add about an 1"? under my bars on my Husky TE510 to make it feel right. This bike is good.
Handling: This bike turns on a dime, goes where you point it. Tracks straight when hard on the gas. It's not as light as my trials but close...
Engine: Can you say Smoooth Nothing can beat the pull of a 300 from down low to ripping your arms off this thing is rock solid. Never missed a beat not once. I thought I stalled it a couple of times...just turn the throttle a bit more and away it went. Very impressed.
Did not notice any Vibrations high or low. Clutch worked flawless.
Well that's about all for now. Well besides my face is a bit sore from grinning all nite.

How'd you find the gearing stock? My 09 EC250 with 13/48 is insane. 1st gear half throttle is 40km/h, 5th and it's over 100km/h.

Nice looking bike!

Thanx Steve,

I pulled my SuperSprox 52 off my WR125 and stuck her on my 300.

It's a bit tall but I like it.

I found 52 a bit to snappy
I run a 50 now.
I prefer the 48 but it is tall for the tight stuff

funny .. I'm on a gg 300 and playing around with a husky 144...
your headed in the opposite direction. looks like we have a lot more trees in my area though. looks like nice country for a 300!!

I see you are a Husky rider also. I like the features of Gasgas but have been on Huskys because the Gasgas has the reputation of being very compact while the Husky is built for tall people. I was surprised to hear the bike fit you better ten your 510 when you are 6 feet tall. I am 6'2" myself. Would a Gasgas fit me with tall seat and the bars moved forward? Have the Gasgas bike gotten taller over the years? I rode a 02 and it felt real small.

Hi!

Nice report but I am wondering if you first rode the bike with the stock set up in the forks before Les did the magic. The 2010 forks are supposed to be much improved compared with the 2009 ones (new valves, etc). Can you clarify this?

Leon

It is snappy for sure I might try a throttle cam. Funny I just got rid of my 09 WR125 didn't like running the bike pinned all the time climbing hills. Just love the lugging power of the 300.

Let me get a couple more rides in to really say it fits me good. The GG is a little more compacted but it seems just right for me.

I never even wanted to try stock heard to many bad reports.
I'll let Steve (SpeedyManiac) give you his thoughts on stock suspension.

I have an 09 EC250 Racing. It is STIFF. The forks feel like they're ready for supercross. The shock feels firm, but good. The forks are good at very high speed stuff though. I have a couple fast races coming up at the beginning of April and plan on leaving the suspension as is for that one.
