Default Front axle bolts Torque setting

The manual says 51nm , Is that Right ? Seems pretty tight & I dont want to strip anything.

Talking about the four bolts ,not the allen bolt that keeps the axle from sliding through ,that just spins after its tight.

Those bolts that use 10mm wrench are sized as 6mm. Torque spec from Engineershandbook.com is 5ft lbs.
http://www.engineershandbook.com/Tables/torque1.htm

Converted that is 6.78nm http://www.convertunits.com/from/ft+lb/to/N+m

Not sure what GG calls for but those little bolts can't handle too much torque, either can the aluminum body of the fork. I use 1/4" drive socket and ratchet and snug them without physically pulling on the ratchet. Make sure you alternate back and forth to be acurate.

if you mean front axel clamp bolts the torque table for an ec250 says 15nm, 11ft.lbs.

I guess They didnt mean the 4 clamp bolts . My 300 Manual doesn't list those ,just front axle 51nm ,I guess thats what confused me .Anyway I found a 200 manual and it list them ,axle clamp nuts @ 4 nm .

What is the front axle listed @ 51nm ?

yeah, 4nm sounds a lot better with steel bolts going into aluminum.

I'm guessing you meant "why", not "what" for the front axle bolt torque? GG manual seems to have always been a little sketchy when it comes to torque tables. Proofreading must be the last thing on their mind.
As far as 51nm for the front axle bolt I think that is still high for an aluminum bolt. I used to torque mine close to 30ft lbs and one day the head of it was gone. Dang aluminum bolts anyhow I rode the whole next week without it because it's really only there to seat the axle against the forks and wheel bearings before tightening down the 4 clamping bolts. The 4 6mm bolts hold it all together. And they did fine job of it the whole time.

Personally I would trust a respected torque table rather than the GG manual but you must take into account that torque tables are talking steel to steel, not aluminum to steel like a lot of the bike stuff is. Aluminum to steel (and vice-versa) is usually going to be less. And don't forget the anti-seize compound!

Yeah ,that little threaded cap couldn't take much I'd guess. In fact on mine the other end has no way to hold it anyway so you couldn't put much on it.

The 04 ec200 I just picked up is six sided on the other end ,like a bolt head ,so you could hold it to tighten the other side.

Thanks for the info
