Default GG300 w/ Dynaring and no E-start

I think a GG300 will be my next bike. I was set on a new 2011 since I'm used to the magic button; however, it occurred to me that since I'm planning on putting a Revloc Dynaring in it I'm not going to find myself stalled out on a hill wishing I had an e-start. I'd rather just save the weight and a bunch of money and pick up a used EC300.

So I have two questions.

1) What are your thoughts on going the auto-clutch sans e-start route? My current ride (Husqvarna TE310) doesn't have an auto-clutch, so I don't know if my thinking is wrong regarding not needing/wanting e-start.

2) Are the frame (or other?) changes in 2010 significant enough that I should look for a closeout on a new 2010?

Any Year bike in new condition will be fine. I agree with your assessment of the auto clutch relegating three e-start unnecessary.

Never had an auto clutch in a 2-stroke but they start so easy I wouldn't worry about the estart with an auto clutch 2-stroke. Hmm a 2-stroke with an auto clutch should be very cool to ride. It sure "helped" tame my old 07 CRF450R. Good luck in your GG search.

Thumbs up

A kick start with a Dyna Ring voids the need for e-start imho. Plus the GG 2t is a easy kick. Btw, I really like my Dyna Ring on my ec250. And like Roostafish said, any year GG is a good choice.

Awesome. My current ride is a Husqvarna TE250 that I put an Athena 310 kit into. It's also running a JD EFI tuner. I'm pretty sure the TE is the best 250 4-stroke enduro/woods bike in the world...but it really sounds like the GG300 is THE best enduro/woods bike period.

It also sounds like the way I want to go is kick start only, and put a DynaRing into it. That's good to hear, since I was a little hesitant to shell out for another brand new bike and take it in the shorts selling my Husky. I'm keeping my eye open for one to pop up in my area (Seattle). Thanks for the responses! Btw, have any of you owned or ridden a TE250/310? I know it's apples to oranges, but I'd love to hear your comments on what I can expect going from a 300cc 4T to a 300 2T.

Ah, gotcha. I hear of a number of EC300's with a dyna ring in them - I thought he'd worked out all the little issues? I know he's working on one for the TE250 and has them in a few bikes now but still has some things to work out. I'm holding off on getting one for the TE250 since I'm planning on getting an EC300. Same with a Scott's stabilizer; I could swap it over to the new bike, but I'll leave behind a few hundred worth SUB mount hardware so I'm going to hold off.

And I forgot to ask, what issues did you encounter? I've heard there are some random variations in clutch baskets that are causing problems.

i think that was mine... originally the DR was too big to fit inside the clutch basket.. when i put an oe fiber on it, it was bigger..so the ring drug inside the basket itself... sent it back with the basket and he fixed that by milling down the ring.. He said he has an oe gg basket there that the dr would fit right in but not in mine..
then we had to get a 1mm thinner washer between the hub and the basket to move the clutch in, so we could get the gap at the pp without hitting the inside of the clutch cover...

mine is an 01, he said it was one of the oldest gg's he has ever put one in..
