Default Cruel Sporting a 2012 300

I've given this a good measure of thought and have to plug a few gaps in knowledge...

Our Arizona dual sports tend to have a lot of single track. Riders on 650s go into WTF-mode in short order. In the local viewpoint, if there's more than a few hundred yards of pavement, the ride designer has failed.

I am trying to go away from a 4T DSport/STrack combo bike and can't afford to have two, let alone the time to wrench, insure and plate both (we need to plate both in Arizona).

So, I am strongly considering dualsporting a new 300. If I can't get an aftermarket 3.5 (heck, I'd like a 4 gallon) tank, I'd ride with a gallon in my backpack. I would consider gearing down to 46 teeth in the rear. I'd likely be running Kenda 270 tire front and rear (perhaps a conventional knobby in front).

Thoughts?

IMHO Get a full house engine job, squish, compression and porting for no loss of top end and more bottom, rb or similiar carb mod, run the 46 in this torque monster and it will feel like a stock bike down low at least and get 80 miles out of a stock tank minimum. Guys do it to kato 300s over here and get 95 miles out of a stock 2012 kato tank. It will be "idling" at 60 mph ( on its back wheel).

The only Dual Sports I do and like are the hard core ones, that are more like trail rides with VERY little road like an enduro. I hate big heavy 4strokes in the woods. Sounds like your targeting the same thing. Just get what you want and set it up for the trail. Pick the limited road events and deal with the pavement accordingly. A lot more fun than dealing with a pig in the woods and/or rocks.

Yes, the bike will be fully RB-Modded. Squish, and carb.

Glenn, you would love the Muddobers Dual Sport ride here in IN, held in July. It's their National Enduro x2!

Sounds like you know what I'm looking at.

We (Arizona Trail Riders) have an AMA National Dual Sport in early November every year.

Two days of riding. Eats, Awards, and separate A, B, and C routes.

Much of the A route is single track. Heck, a good portion of the B route is as well. The C route is mostly grated road and good two-track.

We have the Hancock Quarry Run, held up in the area that hosted the WEC for two years every August. The Hammer Run in November is another good one, video posted of that. Others I did I was bored, might as well have went for a road ride.

Are you saying clean up the ports or are you saying adjusting the ports?
