Default What is this top Triple?

I have not looked real hard, but I have not found this top triple anywhere. There are no markings on it denoting mfg.

Also (excuse my ignorance ) what is the intended function of this plastic loop on the top of the number plate on the MC?

I don't know about top triple, but the plastic strap used to go around the cross bar on 7/8 bars. It is on nearly all MX bikes. I imagine it is designed to hole the number plate and keep the brake cable from going behind the plate.

Ahh yes, I guess that makes sense. Thanks.

I think that clamp is an Oberg (sp?) knock-off for a GasGas from Checkpoint Machine. Uses the same multi-position bar clamp mounts. Looks like a nice part, just may be difficult to mount a damper if you choose to do so.

Yes, it looks to be a very well designed, beefy part. Both of the ECs (actually DEs I found out) have this top triple. Unfortunately this triple will not fit the 50mm Marzocchis on the '05 MC that I decided to keep for myself. That's my buddy's '04 DE in the pic.

Good point on the damper...
There's a WER damper on the '03 DE that we can steal for one of the bikes so I guess it's gonna end up on the '04 DE.

Stavich racing from GoFasters, spelling of name may be wrong. I think he was a factory sponsered rider a few years back. Its a nice unit , I have one on my 300

Matt Stavish's Dad was making Checkpoint parts back when Matt was one of the national team riders and regional reps for Gas Gas. If you want to know about the parts, I think GoFasters might be able to give you some history on Checkpoint parts. Stavish made all kinds of goodies for the Gassers between 2000 and 2003. Top notch parts.

Minnesota (say it like a Minnesotan, Minna-soda) made, with pride ya, den der.

O.K,
Now it makes sense why I'm not finding anyone selling these parts anymore.

Google searches bring up old threads from message boards, but no retail outlets. I see a similar Oberg triple goes for about 170 bucks, but this Checkpoint one looks to be much more substantial plus not so "blingy" looking. Too bad it won't swap to my MC... I don't think there's enough material there to have it bored out for the 50mm forks, but maybe...

Will the stem etc. be the same between the '03 DE and the '05 MC?

Stem should be tha same.

After riding my bike for the first time with the ProTect sub mount, I really like it a lot. I would keep your OEM top clamp for the 50s and go this way. Then your Scotts or GPR damper ready.

You could always swap the 45s and clamps on to the '05 MC. The 45 is a great woods fork, some say better than the 50s. I can't say as I never rode a set of 50s that were set up good, but the 45s are fine and all you need in the woods, plus easy to service.

I'm gonna leave the 45mm on the '04 250 for my buddy Merrill. I spoke with Les at LTR about the 50mm after several comments that the 45mm might be a better choice. He assured me that the 50mms are sweet when set up properly and his prices to do so are very reasonable IMO.

If it ever quits snowing around here I'll be able to ride the thing a bit to see how they are and how I might want them tweaked.
