2018 XC 300 right side cover removal
Does the water pump impeller need to be taken off before the right engine side cover can be removed. If so, how do you keep the impeller from turning when you remove the screw? The impeller is plastic and i cant figure out a good way to hold it without damaging it.

No, no need to take the water pump off. It comes off in one piece with the inner cover. You also dont need to take the clutch cover off.

Doc Brown is correct. When you put the RH cover back on, do so carefully. The water pump drive gears need to mesh. You may need to turn the impeller a bit.

Sometimes you need to heat up the case around the front dowel hole. It usually corrodes due to the open bolt hole.
