That first clip shows power valve being rotated manually with the actuator rod still connected.my understanding was this was not recommended as the balls in the case actuator can be dislodged by the rod releasing the tension holding them in place?anyone care to clarify?

Yes not advisable to manually activate the pv although I believe the chances of displacing one of the balls doing this with your bike lying on its side are pretty slim but totally not worth the risk
