Default Race vs Sixdays

I am buying a new bike for a two day desert race. After that race the bike will be used primarily in tight woods that are laced with roots and littered with rocks. My dealer is recommending I buy the Race model because it will do better in the desert than the Sixdays.

What are your thoughts on the Race model in the deep woods (Here at home it's first and second gear, almost trials like).

The suspension will likely be your determining factor. Out of the box the Race's 48mm CC Marzocchi's will likely be better in the desert, but you'll likely need to back them down for slow woods riding.

250 vs 300 is likely a better question.

Thanks for the reply. It will be the 250. My dealer is a great guy, and I trust his judgement. I do, however, want to make sure that I'm not getting a model that will cause me grief here at home, where we rarely get out of third gear.

I only weigh in at a-buck-fifty.

I'm thinkin' 300 Race is a possibility when the new batch comes in from Spain at the end of June.

Between the Race kit and the what Clay's getting as feedback on the 48mm Zokes, it might be worth the risk. The lack of rad braces and metal skid plate is something I'll have to address with my credit card.

Problem is no production bikes with the fork are here yet, so no reviews on our terrain. I myself am planning on a '12 or maybe an '11 Race so I'd like to know as well, as my terrain is like yours. Vindicator, have you ridden the forks? On what bike and what type of terrain?

The rad braces on the Six days are crap anyway. My mate has destroyed his rads on his 200. Not a really good design IMO.

I've always prefered Bullet Proof Designs radiator guards. The best out there and they have lifetime warranty. Going to have to wait until xmas for mine............
