Default Spring Preload - How to Access It?

Hi all, this seems like kind of a silly question, but I'm still new to this...

I have a 2013 EC300, and I want to adjust the rear preload. Is there an easy way of doing this that I'm somehow missing? Do I have to drop the shock to get at it? Seems really tight in there, I definitely can't get my wrench in...

Use a punch to loosen, a brass one will do the least damage, then spin the whole spring, hopefully the preload rings will go with it, or go back to the punch and slowly knock it round.

Put it on a liftstand first and get the rear off the ground.it takes most of the load off the spring and makes the collar much easier to turn.waterblast or brush clean the threads as best you can and spray wd40/crc on threads immediately above collar.loosen lock screw well loose to allow collar to "spread"a little.if possible tap the lugs in the direction that "opens"the collar ring slot to crack the bind.either direction is fine just to get it moving initially.ive found that you can often turn the spring itself by hand along with the collar once it initially frees up.saves beating up the lugs

If your 13 is the same as mine, no locking collar on it. Just the single collar with a 5mm allen key that tightens it up.

As above, get the bike on the stand, loosen the collar and then try to turn the whole spring. Should be able to sneak two hands onto it down around the lower half. Easier to remove preload than to add it back on this way.

Should have mentioned earlier but if you measure/count the threads above before adjusting you have a reference point.bear in mind that even 1 turn can be noticeable in feel and sag measurement at rear axle
