Counter blance shaft issues
to cut a long story short the drive side gear on the counter balance shaft has spun 180 `and welded itself to the shaft, the bik shop that is looking after it is cutting it off, do i have to put a counter balance shaft back in? the motor is out of an 03 wild300 hp quad, if any one knows of this can you let me know what is the best way to fix this.

No, you can leave it out if you like. You must plug the holes in the cases, and install either the CB gear, the eccentric balance weight(EC), or the spacer(MC) on the crank. Consult the parts manual.

------------------------- The 2003 quad had a balancer? I thought 1999 was the last year GasGas put a counter balancer in a motor.. My 1998 EC250 is sooow smooth. I'd love to have one in my 02 XC300. Just curious. Jeff |

The quads always had balancers.
Glenn. I removed the balancer on my 1998 Gas Gas, I did not install any other balancer. Never had any real issues except some buzzing/vibrations from the motor. Sure did wake it up. You will need one DORMAN 555-095 freeze plug to block off the c/b holes. Be sure to put red Form-a-gasket on the freeze plugs before installing. Last edited by gasgasman; 12-17-2009 at 05:07 PM. counter balance shaft
Thanks guys for your help, i really appreciate it, its awesome that atleast someone else has done this and knows about it, getting parts is the only problem with having the gasgas quad, living in western Australia seems to be isolated from any european motorcycle shop that care.

I wanted to get a 300hp quad motor to put in a bike,, The CB motor is jsut so nice.. thats why I never parted with my 97 250..

At one time I was thinking of installing one in my '03, figured it would be good for technical riding. I got a price of approx $275 for all the parts, plus I'd have to have my cases machined. If you want to keep the balancer and just need a shaft, check with your importer or even here in the US for a price.

well its all back together, only a few mishaps, like forgetting the kick start spring and not getting the gear selector spring right. test run tomorrow, thanks again for everyones great advice.
