The slide is what's pulled by the throttle and opens the airway in the carb body, it has a cutaway on the bottom in a crescent shape to allow airflow for idle, I believe the 7 is for 7 mm.
This is a golden explanation of what carby part affects what throttle opening: http://www.keihincarbs.com/tips/gate.html

Bike year & model = 15 300r estart
Carb=AS1 (screw top) Temperature = 15-30c Elevation (feet) = sea level to 1000' Main jet = 175 Pilot jet = 40 Needle & notch = N3CJ clip#2 Air screw setting = 1 Out Throttle valve/slide = 7 Float height=18mm Power Valve=2.2 Motul 800 57:1 I thought the last jetting was great but just needed to adjust the PV, WELL, when adjusting the PV it was obviously too lean, and the 40pj makes this the best gasgas power by a mile I've had, the bike will not stall, is torquey, revs absolutely linear and has a supersonic top end. In flowing single I switch to the soft map, rocks and slow tech and fast open stuff dry map. The fuel economy seems to be better as well. The ignition maps seem to be different. The 13 was snappy off the bottom in dry and soft of the crack with the same top end in wet. The 15 is now soft all the way through in wet mode. Dry mode is now smoother off the bottom but more torque is there and the mid and top end is mind blowing!!

Further to above, my previous bikes with the old head ran equally well on 98/95/91 fuel. The new motor runs much better on 95 compared to 91 (haven't tried 98). Also the new one runs better on GRO FULL SYNTH or Motul 800 than on maxima 927 where as the old head liked castor. Go figure.

I'm running the same as your setup (except for a richer main jet, 178) but in a 250 with an AS2. Strange how there's bugger all difference between the 250 and 300 jetting wise, and that the 250s seem to want a bigger main. |

True! Must be the vf4, if I go leaner it's too lean.

2005 EC300
175 main, 40 pilot 2500-5000 ft ASL NEDW #3 clip Stock pipe and silencer (custom bent, lol!) Temperatures are crankin hot in southern BC right now, and my bike was running a lot rich this weekend. (30 degrees C up at 6500 feet!) I had ordered a NEDW awhile back, but was too busy/lazy to put it in. The needle that came with the bike has no markings, brass coloured. Threw in the NEDW last night, and bam, cleaned it up nicely. Still a little hesitation down low, but seems to pull harder, and longer, than the original. Some bush riding will tell the tale better. |
