Good choice mate. They make a great trail bike.
I have an FSR450, Only thing I did was change the oil every 100km for the first 500km on the speedo(Oil filter changed at 200km mark) with mineral oil.
Also clean oil screen every oil change...This is important
Then go semi synthetic with new oil filter and all is sweet.
Get your rear suspension linkages pulled apart and greased + your steering head set.
Then go out and enjoy.

Great bike. Who did you gets yours from as you are a long way up top.
Just go over all the nuts and bolts for the 1st few rides and if you ride mostly in the dirt fit a 58T rear sprocket with a longer chain also fit frame protectors off the FSR. My mates got one and he loves it.

Default Thanks Sandman

Probably sounds like a silly question but... what exactly are the frame protectors and how much cash should I put aside to buy them. The bike is sitting at Ducati Noosa QLD because our real home is down there and we are taking a week off this month for holidays and will pick it up then. My better half grew up on a cattle station in the and is keen to get back into riding, therefore is taking over my 2005 model XR400. Should make for some awesome riding.

Thanks for the info
Cheers

basically, they are bits of plastic (mine are anyway) that cable tie to your frame in certain spots to minimize scratches to the bare metal. just a little nice thing for reasle ou can say, "the frame is unmarked" and charge more, lol
