EC300 Baseline settings
I recently had my forks set up by Les (www.lt-racing.com) and was very happy with the results.
On Saturday, I was racing and felt like the rear wheel is bouncing off of things more than I would like (it was a rocky course). On Sunday, I went to make some adjustments. My first thought was that I had too much compression dampening on the shock, keeping it from sucking up the hits from thee rocks. When I went to soften it up, I discovered that it was already set as soft as it would go. So now, I think i want to start over with a recommended baseline, and go from there. I'm looking for good starting places. Primarily for the rear, but will take recs for teh front as well.

Hello James,
A good baseline setting for your shock clickers with stock 52 nm spring and stock valving would be around this range; Rebound, 14 to 16 clicks out. Compression, 17 to 19 clicks out. High speed compression (the 17 mm hex with rubber boot around it) would be 3.25 to 3.5 turns out. Set sag (you on board) to 105 to 108 mm This is a good place to start and fine tune from there. From what you describe, it sounds to me the rear is kicking back on you meaning a loss of rebound damping. I would be willing to bet you are due for a fluid change and service. When the fluid breaks down in the shock, the rebound action is the first to suffer. As a general guideline, if you have to increase rebound damping to get your control back to what it was, you are due for a service. Take care, |

Les is the Gas Gas suspension god.
Listen to the master. My EC/O 200 is dreamy after I sent the suspension to LTR. |

I think I'll wait till after November. My last race is on the 5th and that's a good time to tear everything down and send the forks and shock off for servicing. Thanks Les!

I will also add that Les does great work!
Les, On my '06 EC300 the Ohlins shock HS comp adjuster only has 2.5 turns of total adjustment range. Did they make a change along the way or is there something wrong with my shock?

Hello Eric,
Doesn't sound right to me, they typically have had about 4 turns of adjustment on this shock (give or take a little) I have not seen an 06 Gasser with only 2.5 turns of adjustment. It is certainly a possibility that a different internal assembly has been used by Ohlins on occasion, you may not be alone. There are allot of possibilities in their parts bins! See if it performs correctly for your needs, run it in all the way and try it, you should notice a big difference on a sharp, fast hit. Open, it should be defeated and go through the travel easier. It may take several runs over the same terrain to really get a good feel for it. |

Pg 36 of the manual: "High Compression Adjustment To adjust, use a number 17 hex wrench. The control has 2.5 complete turns."
