Jets arrived yesterday and jet needle is on order. Happy days.
So yesterday I changed the main jet to 175 and pilot jet to 40 turned on the fuel and kicked, she burst into life on the 3rd kick idling beautifully a nice steady rev, unfortunately it only lasted 10 seconds and then she cut out. So I kicked again and she wouldn't start on her own but did with revs. I revved her warm all sounding nice no more thick white smoke so I believe the 175 main jet sorted that. I adjusted the idle screw from 2.5 turns out half a turn in at a time and once again like the 35 pilot jet the idle screw was turned all the way in to get a very low 10 to 15 second idle.
I'm still not sure what else could be the problem ??
It's like no matter what I've tried in regards to the pilot jet she still doesn't want to idle ? 35, 40, 42 all give no different result the idle screw doesn't even make the revs go higher or lower ?
She is ready for the first proper ride out in the woods 32m above sea level on the 18th of this month so I'm looking forward to that. Even if she still doesn't idle before then I'm itching to have some fun on her it's been 5 and half years.
Thank you everyone again for suggestions I think changing the 180 main jet to 175 has helped as for the jet needle hopefully that comes before the 18th but I'm still taking her out if not.
Jay

Dude. Until you have it run through the gears and operating temperature.

Don't make any assessments.

Yeah I think that's my best bet I have gone over the bike made sure all bolts, nut, clips etc are tight panels on, guards on wire and cables routed I'm pretty sure she's ready.
The clutch feels a bit iffy but not to worried no leaks so that's good.
Yeah man your right, go ride it 1st then assess.
Cheers F5

What an animal this bike is
I had my first ride yesterday and she fired up with throttle input the bike wouldn't idle so gave it a few blips jumped on and away I went slow and steady for 10 minutes then when she was warm gave her some through the straights in the woods. The bike sounded really nice it felt really nice after 15mins on straights I tried going through the woods technical riding but because she still won't idle after 25mins of riding I was always having to kick her back into life when ever I was stuck on a log. I must admit although this was annoying I had such a blast. 30 mins riding and it was time for a break (arm pump) had about 30mins break and back on her same as above plus wheelie practice on the grass, all good well so I thought. Another break and some photos of the bike and the scenery. 1 and a half hours later time for another ride fired her up 30 seconds in bog, bog, bog, bog died....... checked a few things and found no spark on the plug.
Have I fouled the plug it was a little black not wet a little moist but more burnt. I put it up to the engine and got intermittent sparks then no spark at all. Back in the van she went. All in all I fully enjoyed the day but woke up this morning with questions ??
Why did she die after doing so well for a few hours?
Why did the plug fail?
Is that what fouling a plug means ?
Why will she still not idle after going through the gears ?
Is there something else I'm missing ?

That aside, fouling a plug isn't common these days. Only time I've had dicky spark is when my stator failed. Just keep an eye on it.

OK, the new N3EG arrived today and I have 4 new plugs coming Wednesday so I will install the needle and a plug then, fingers crossed 🤞

As for the stator (keeping an eye on it) does that mean I will have to get my multimeter out and test the ohms? That's a whole new thing I will have to learn before doing so I'm not sure on what the ratings should be etc. I'm willing if that's what I need to do.

Cheers again for the replies

Unfortunately working with stator means copper wire coated with varnishlike insulation. So a multimeter is at a disadvantage due to the changeable nature of a tightly wound coil that gets hot and has current passing through it.

Look I'm not trying to scare you, it could and probably is just fine.

But they do fail. Mine went at 12yrs old, that's not scary.

They share part with ktm so replacement aftermarket is easy and cheap.

The symptoms are variable but a typical scenario is the bike starts to stutter when it gets warm. Then would die completely. Then cool a little and work again.

Just file in back of mind.

But by all means buy a multimeter and watch YouTube video on how to use it. Just be aware that coils are hard to measure (I've put them in a heat chamber that can prompt an issue. Sometimes).
