Default Looking at '99 six days 250EC, advice needed

I am still lurking around here and still have my KDX. After doing 4 events this year, I am ready to move on to something a little more performance oriented.

I found a very clean, '99 250EC six days edition. Anybody know anything about these bikes?

I am looking for something that has a little more get up an go than the KDX, but with good useable power, and better suspension than the KDX.

The Gasser I am looking at has conventional forks, which I like, and looks like it is all stock except for bars and barkbusters.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the 1997-1999 were the only years that
had the counter balanced motors. If the bike you
are looking at has the balance shaft still installed
I think you will be amazed at how smooth it is.
I love my 1998 EC250 for that reason alone.
Everything else about it is icing on top.
The KDX and GasGas have many similarities.
Just think of the GasGas as a KDX on steroids
wearing dancing shoes.
I own 2 KDXs. A 1990 KDX240 and a 1992 KDX200
One sits in the living room and one sits in the
garage. When I go trail riding I take the 250 GasGas*
Just my 2 cents.
Jeff
*Well I (did) untill I got a 2002 EC300 and turned
the '98 into a dual-sport / SuperMoto street maching.

For the casual trail rider, the counter balanced Gas Gas' are THE best.
I had a '98 250 that was so smooth, you could ride all day and not get tired. ( I rode the "B" class and got bumped to "A" on that bike)
The conventional forks were very supple.
The 97-99 bikes have a very high output lighting coil. So fire up the baja lights!

I took the c/b out of my '98 to see what would happen. It was a rip snorting beast then, but vibrated like crazy.

You can put the 2005 side panels on the 97-2001 bike to give it an updated look.

Sounds like what I am looking for. Anyone know what a "six days" edition means, besides graphics?

I also found out it has a WER stabilizer, grip heaters, LTR powervalve and Stealhy FWW.

After reading a bit, it sounds like the six days had a bigger tank and more aggressive engine characteristics.

The same shop has a nice '06 300ec for $3200.

Having a 97 250ec, had an 03 250ec and rode an 07(GMP's bike) I'd go with the 06 for that price.. You would be very happy,, unless the 99 is really cheap,, And most 99's did not have the CB,, only the early prototype 99's..

Well, I can get the '99 for $1500 and it is loaded with tons of extras, but an '06 for $3200 is a great deal.

Fir, did you get the 99 or the 06. I am looking at an 04 ec250 for around $2200. plastic scratched, dent in pipe and odometer does not work, other than that she runs great. Afraid to pull the trigger and am trying to get more information before doing so. Any words of wisdom? I know $3200 is just a little more and I could get a 05DE250 for that. What is the diff of EC vs DE and is $1,000 more worth going from an 04 to an 05??

There is a very good chance that the 2004 is also a DE. I think most if not all the bikes in the US in 2004 were DE, however all the paperwork and manuals say EC.

My kids '04 is a EC, 2K3 ignition with large flywheel and lighting coil unlike my '00 XC, which like the DE has 2K2 and tiny flywheel and 30 watt (?) coil. But we didn't buy it new so I'm not saying it hasn't been modified. We never met or talked to the original owner. I bought the '00 new though.
