wrong fmf 200 de pipe?
Saw an UK dirt bike test on the de 200 and they said it ran weak only to find it had the same pipe as comes on the 250/300. After putting on the correct pipe they said it made all the difference in the word.(I cant find the article now)
My 05 200 DE has fmf gnarly #0250-49 and their site calls for a 0250-55. I have tried contacting fmf via e-mail but no reply yet! Does anybody have the answers? MY 200 is pretty weak on bottom and has a short spread of power, not a lot of rev. jetting is 176 main, JD kit needle in middle,45 pilot, air screw 2 and 1/4 elevation is 1500' and temps from 50 to 80 this time of year. only mod is a power-now wing that I bought to help my problem which it did only slightly on bottom but mid got much better! my biggest complaint is it just does not seem to make enough power down low to chug and claw its way up much of anything, lots of clutch required. I know its a 200 but jeez! |

Well i thought it was good but try a 42 pilot with 1 turn out on the air screw. Might wake up the bottom a bit but otherwise just buy a new FMF from the dealer and make sure it is the proper one, or clean up your power valves as well.

There is no fmf pipe made that is going to give you a broad power band. Your going to have to source a euro pipe maybee even modify one if you want a more flexable power delivery.

That article refers to the OEM GG pipe, on the '07 200. I beleive '07 was the first year a 200 specific pipe was made. The OEM GG pipes are excellect, try and find one.

What slide do you have? If it's a #6, try a #7. Have you tried both a richer and leaner needle position to see the difference?

I have the #7 slide, and have a new top end so the power valves were cleaned at that time. I will try the 42 pilot and mess with the air screw.
I put a v-force in my last gasser 300 and it made a noticable difference in the bottom end; however the guys at halls and go fasters say there is not a tasserini for the 200. Just today I pulled the rad valve out of the 200 and compared it to the left-over rad valve that came out of the 300 and I believe there is NO difference. Does anybody have any experience with putting a v- force in the 200? I appreciate all the input! |

I think they are the same. What you should check though, is the clearance from the VForce outer reed petals to the cases. Take the cylinder off and look at how far the outer petals can open before hitting the cases. On my '03 250 conversion, it was about 5mm. They WILL hit the cases on opening, the cases form a reed stop. Work these contact surfaces flat and smooth to avoid petal failure. The RAD valve has a steeper angle and a lot more clearance so this is a non-issue. It was a very worthwhile mod to an '03 250.

Just came back from 30 mi single track after having done the following: put in reed spacer between reed cage and engine, also cut an old left over silencer in half. The verdict:much better low end.The bike does a much better job at running just above idle w/o dying ,just chugging and clawing.
Sound output was the same as before although there is fresh packing. However in the last 2 miles of the ride I fooled around with the air screw. started at 2 1/4 out and ended up at 1.5 out which was even better! Now the question. Does it sound like I need to go up on the pilot or ? |
