Default 300 to 250 kit cost?

I did a few searches but nothing came up. About how much does it cost for the cylinder and whatever else would be needed to make my 300 a 250?

Thanks.

GoFasters has a S3 cylinder and piston kit for $600.
You will need a head and the necessary gaskets.

Yep. All you need is the cylinder and head. The base gaskets are the same, but you'll need a new one. One of the head o-rings is the same as the 300, ther other shared with the 200, can't remember which is which though. The exhaust spigot, powervalve assembly etc, all come off the 300 cylinder and will slide right into/onto the 250.

Price wise, I paid approx $800 from go fasters for the S3 Cylinder and head with 3 x inserts.. I'm sure it could be done for less if shopping around and considering second hand parts and maybe the cost of a replate.

I also see you have a 2012, and from what I know the 2013 has the new refined cylinder which is much stronger. Haven't confirmed it for the 250 but definitely for the 300. motocrosscenter.com had pretty competitive prices on OEM cylinders and heads too. Gofasters might be able to match prices. I'd go for the newer porting personally.

So ballpark is $700 to the door...that is about double of what I thought it was.

Thanks.

Or trade your 300 components with an owner of a 250 willing to make the conversion. Heck, I'm tempted.

That includes the piston, rings, clips and pin though.. If you factor the cost of those into it, its not too bad for what you get. You also end up with a complete spare top end you can sell/swap back.

You are right about that. I'm going to keep it 300 till the Enduro season ends in 8 months and it is Top End time. I should know by then if I like the 300. I get bored after a while with one bike. So the 250 swap is like getting a new bike for $700.

I'd did the same S3 swap as jake to a 250 and find I'm a lot less tired after 5 hours of riding. Quality kit too, here in Canada all in it cost me about 850 with all the gaskets etc. sold my 300 kit for 350 so it worked out well!

I just started thinking about my 05 EC250. How much I liked the forgiveness of the 250 motor specifically for racing purposes. You could get real sloppy with the throttle and nothing crazy happened, where with the 300, crazy shit happens when you get sloppy in the trees.

And yeah I agree, 250 was less tiring overall. Unless it was mountains. I'll take the 300 in the mountains and grunt my way away. Of course I weigh 235. If I was 190 I would take the 250. Hey that is one of the reasons I bought the bike, bc I knew I could go 250 if I want to.

Yeah I haven't even considered going back to the 300 since making the swap. About to drop my 3rd 250 piston into it too.

The only time I have any issues is finding traction on loose climbs when the momentum is gone, but more power is rarely the solution then either. Less fatigue, less initial pull, and just as much go if you're willing to turn the throttle a bit more. All wins in my eyes.
