Default 2013 EC300 Starting point confirmation

Hey all - Just picked up my first Gasgas, kind of. I have the GG engine anyway, a 2013 EC300 in a Christini AWD chassis. I just picked up the bike for a pretty good deal, but working through a troubleshooting challenge. I wanted to confirm that my jetting is in the ballpark as the problem I'm chasing is that it idles great and snaps off idle strong and then won't take much beyond 1/3 to 1/2 throttle without sputtering, it wont rev out and smoking pretty good with a bunch of spooge, so I'm ultra short shifting to ride it the little bit I've taken it out.

I typically ride 300-2000ft, 60-80 deg F. ~50%RH. I have the AS2 carb. 175 main, 42 pilot, NE1F in the #3 (middle) position. Haven't compared float position to the few pictures I found in the float sticky, but will. Carb inside was spotless.

Other than seeing some suggestions to go to a NE1J, thoughts on if my current jetting would cause major ridability issues?

I pulled and cleaned power valve. Pulled reed valves and they are tip top. My next stop is RH crank seal since it is easy and I feel like my symptoms could be indicative of it. And if that doesn't do it, I'm on to the coil and CDI unit.

Thanks.

The N1EF needle is a poor choice. I believe it has a steep taper that goes rich at large throttle openings. It should run better if you drop the needle one notch (ie clip is moved up one groove).

There are better needles, read some of the jetting threads. Do jetting changes before you pull anything else apart.

Thanks for tips. I'll tackle them with some more time with bike. I spent some more time with it today and am about certain I have an electrical issue. Hooked up a timing light and when letting it build revs, the timing light cuts out the same time as the engine is missing.

Good test. Put in a brand new plug and try the same thing.

I have a 2014 Christini with a Gasgas 300 also, had same jetting as you. Changed the needle to a nedj. Love the overall power now. Clean all the way up and no big surprise hit. I ride the same altitudes as you here in PNW. I at first had spooge too but after changing needle, plug and putting in fresh gas it cleaned up nicely.

It's getting better. I swapped the ignition coil with no effect, but then did the new CDI box and it doesn't have the hard miss, but it still is not great. Going to try the NEDJ needle and see how I like that.

Went with the NEDJ needle in the #3 position and working nicely. Had a good ride out today.

Thumbs up

While you are lookiing around at the bike, make sure that the coil has a good ground (no rust or corrossion) and that the plug wire is in good shape on both ends. (One the GasGas bikes, the spark plug wire will unscrew from the coil and also the spark plug cap. I've seen them get a burnt look about them. If that is the case, clip a 1/4" off and screw it back in.)
