My guess is that the Africa Twin will fall somewhere between the two in regards to dirt (ktm) and road (bmw) performance.

I rode a euro Africa Twin in the early 90s - on a business trip to the Netherlands and one of the engineers I was working with let me ride his...

A friend here had a Trans-Alp -the american dumbed down version of it...

Just thinking about it makes me really hate American Honda... I always wanted the "real one" and couldn't buy it here...

This new bike is an inline twin rather than the inline v twin of the older africa twin - I sure hope it has some long stroke kinda torque for the fun to ride factor. Otherwise, it's a nice exercise with pretty looks - but misses the mark completely.

Relative to the motor - the review uses the word "screams" and "exciting".

In my opinion, this kind of bike should have nice arm pulling torque. Looks like it is missing the mark... (at least for me...)

And I still have the same (low) opinion of american honda....

Makes sense from a profit standpoint. The bloated adventure bike market is booming with most seeing 90% of their life on the street.

Its about the idea more than the reality and a screamer motor keeps the commuters and weekend warriors entertained.

I think the ajp pr7 is probably going to be the bike guys like you end up liking. A modern and more refined 640adv...
