2011 300 6D Speed Clip On Steering Head

Just picked up an '11 300 6D. Going over the bike, I see a 6mm speed clip on the steering head? Can someone tell me what went / goes there? Thanks!

Probably the old mount for the coolant expansion tank. Sometimes they crack and perish and are replaced with a hose between the radiators.
