Default My new bike! EC250 2002

Hi all, I have just entered the world of gas gas, at the weekend I picked up a 2002 ec250! the frame number is vtrecx250sb111008 which I believe denotes it as a factory supermoto? The bike has large supermoto wheels, a huge brembo front caliper, an excel front off road rim, and what I guess is a stock off road rear wheel, both with decent tyres, a spare messico pipe and tail pipe, a set of black plastics, and a nissin brake caliper. A years mot, and it set me back the right side of ?1500 (I live in the uk). The gearbox oil was pretty minging, and the air filter wasn't great, I believe the bike has been sat for quite a while/not generally used. There was a good trickle of oil around the header pipe, the coolant looks clean though. Basically I think it just needs a good thrashing to blow the cobwebs away! I do have a couple of questions regarding some bits and pieces though! Starting with the front plastics and the way the self tappers thread into the black inserts, well half of them have broken off, including the large one that mounts the fuel tank! I guess this is in case of a crash, where do I get new ones though? and what actually keeps them in the tank casing? The clutch seems to have a bit of a drag, not too bad but I think it could be better, it is the api type, I bled a fair bit of dot 4 through and got no air, I have changed the oil for a light 75-90 semi synth atf type. It has improved and I figure maybe the plates just need a bit of riding. I'd also like to know what forks I have, they are large and silver, with gold bleeders, I guess either marzocchi or wp? That's all for now, and I will get some pictures up asap! peace

Welcome Dave. Gas Gas UK should be able to run the VIN and tell you what year the bike is. Might be worth checking if the clutch basket is notched, especially if it's been hammered on the tarmac with sticky tyres on.

Will check out the clutch basket when I get a minute, thanks caravanman. Does anyone know what the forks are? There are zero markings on them, and they have gold bleeders on the top! Guessing zokes from the look of the machining having had them on mountainbikes

Should be WP43 if stock.

WP 43's are on my 2002 XC and they are a dark charcoal anodizing. Those uppers look like Marzocchi Shivers 45mm. Those were on the 2004 GG models, but that year had black DLC coated lowers. Suggest you check closely on the cast axles bosses for markings. Also grab some calipers and measure the dia. of the sliders.
