Default Hot seized engine??? Help please

I was riding to a local enduro event to help marshalling when the engine suddenly died locking up the rear wheel! Managed to stop safely but initially couldn't kick the engine over at all. After a few minutes I was able to kick it over but it took loads of kicks to start and now doesn't want to idle as it did before. I limped the bike home (not far just a few miles)

Engine sounds crisp when revved, starts fine now but won't idle like it did, it just conks out. Only thing that might be different is a whirring noise as it's going along but that might be my paranoia and it's always been like that....

Edit: 2006 ec300

Sounds like a possibility of a stuck piston. Pull the pipe and take a look in the exhaust port, you might be able to see some evidence.
I have also heard of crank bearings locking up, and then becoming free afterwards, but this is less likely IMO

Sounds like a loose crank stuffer.

What am I looking for exactly? Sorry but I'm new to this and don't know what I'm looking for

No!! The retaining bolts for the crank stuffer come loose.
Will get wedged in the crank.

Could be many things.

I wouldn't adopt the "she'll be right!" attitude.
Start investigating.

Pulling the pipe and inspecting the piston for signs of damage.
Pulling the carb and reed block. Inspect for chipped reeds or signs anything has gone through that side of the engine.
Turn it over and inspect the crank action. Should be able to hear much better with the reed block removed as well.
Remove PV covers and check the action there (don't pull it open with actuator arm still connected).
Then if needed keep going until you find the source.

How long since she's had some work? How many hours on the engine?

The bike is new to me but the previous owner seemed legit, Im in no doubt that it's been well cared for. I've spoken to him and he's been helpful. We're thinking the impeller may have given up. I've not had chance to investigate yet, thanks for all the helpful comments so far

If it has seized once, any further running will cause the engine to self destruct in much more expensive ways. Tear it down and do it right
