Default Using far too much fuel?

Hi, I?ve bought a 2014 ec300 around 6 month ago and only just got round to setting the carb up as it wasn?t running right, I?ve gone back to total standard settings as it says in the manual. The bike is running great now apart from the fueling problem. The bike was doing around 55-60 miles on a full tank, however now I have gone back standard the bike only does 40 miles to totally empty now, just wondered what I can do to sort the fuel out?
42 pilot
175 main
1 full turn out
N1EF needle

Thanks

N1EF is your problem. Look for jetting threads with needle choices. 10 km per litre is easily attainable with the correct needle. I use the JD red, but other needles work well too.

Check float is sealing and set properly so you aren't shaking it out the overflow.
And as always lose the std needle.

I was chasing two causes of high fuel consumption.

One was the float bowl. My six year old Lectron has a clear bowl so I could see that the fuel level was all the way to the top (caused hard cold starting as well).

I adjusted the float even though Kevin at Lectron was sure it was the float valve pointy thing. My float adjustement helped, but unless I closed the petcock, the level would go up in a few hours. I ordered a new valve and i cured that.

The other problem was the remote choke that was unable to fully close off.

Once I fixed these I had MPG and power back.

To summarize and add a little....

To optimize fuel mileage and get bike running cleanly...

- Check and adjust float level
- Throw the n1ef needle in the trash...
- Check condition of reeds.
- Look for a machine shop to dial in squish band and the compression on your cylinder head...

For more info on the n1ef needle (stock jetting) - you can do a search on "crimes against humanity"...
