Default 2k2 or 2k3 more desirable?

I'd like to know which ignition is more prized the 2k2 or 2k3. My 06 de300 has the 2k2 and is marginal for running lights so for me the 2k3 is the more desirable. I have made my bike street legal and use a pair of 9 volt batteries for the horn and a 12volt powertool battery for the brake and turn signals, but I'd like to run from my ignition and a sealed battery with rec/reg. What do you guys think?

Not to steal your post but is there a sure way to identify a bike with the 2K3? I just looked at a new 07 EC 250 and the ignition wires exited the cover at the 2 o-clock position. I thought I read this ment a 2K3. The 10 o-clock position ment a 2K2. Or do I have it backwards.

I'm with ya here. I would want the 100 watt 2K3 myself for a few different reasons.

skidad did you get down to kennys place in RI? they have the 07 on the floor as well as a few used race bikes for sale, not much in parts at all,but they can order anything,if it was nicer out, they might even let you test ride one of the older 05 or 06 used models they have there

2K-2 wires exit 2 o'clock, 2K-3 10 o'clock. Some of the early '07s came with 2K-3s.

Its all personal and depends on what you like/need. If you need the output power then its the 3. I just think the 2 is more flexible tuning with weights especially on a 250, and since it can never be truely street legal here I have no need for more lighting. I don't even ride with a light shell anymore (why break it?) except for enduros.

If your a racer then the smaller 2 is better,, but if you want to ds you'll want the 3. Actually,, I have the 2 on my 97 with the eline style ducati external lighting coil and that one is what I like best. Just doesnt fit on the newer bikes.

Don't mind GMP... he mounts his clock on backwards.

2K-2 wires exit at 10 o'clock (towards front of bike or radiator side of cover). 2K-3 wires exit at 2 o'clock (towards rear of bike or carb side of cover).

I'm sorry I typed it backwards and confused everyone, long day here.

Look at the Flywheel Effect article in the Tech Articles section. It relates the two ignitions in MOI which is all that matters. The 2K-2 with the 14 oz is probably close to Steve's '97 setup, but the CB must be worth a lot of MOI as well.

Yes,, but it feels good,, unless your in deep sand.. The CB doesnt add as much as you'd think.. the stator for the ducati energia coil adds alot of "magnetic weight" to the MOI.. now thats complicating things!!
