Default Gypsum Colorado Trail Ride on 2010 GG300 and Updated GG275

I figured some folks would like a quick but gory report on our latest trail ride where I remembered to take a camera and snap some shots...Luckily for me there were picture worthy happenings I have not found myself in since riding enduros about 20 years ago (specifically the Green Marble Enduro in Maryland). In my life I have been stuck pretty bad 3 times and the pictures below are the only recording of those occurrences. Stuck in the mud is the 2007 GG275 I bought from Boomhauer last year...It's a great bike and was my unfortunate ride yesterday when I decide that "I knew the best line" through the mudhole. My riding partner (Bob) decided to stop and look for the best line and I just picked a line and committed. It turned out to be "quick mud" and when I stepped off of the bike I sunk up to above my knees (I'm 6'2") before I knew it and grabbed the log. There were also logs and branches placed in there by prior victims that made things worse. The short story on getting out was using Bob's rope on the handlebars and with me tugging the bike towards the log to the side (firmer base) it came out fairly quickly. His help made us even as I jumped down into a ravine below his 2010 GG300 earlier to keep it from tumbling down and then I yanked it back onto the trail for him. My 275 has always run well at altitude but I have been experimenting with jetting lately and decided to pull my RB Designs Carb off of my old 300 to see how it worked. When it was off, I rejetted to a 42 Pilot, 170 main, N1EH needle on top clip, and a number 7 slide and put in a Power Now insert on the air boot side. This really livened up the bottom and allowed good airscrew adjustment through the day when climbing up close to 10K feet and when the temperature rose to 80 (f)...After initial problems with the carb mod I can see how well it works now. Bob's GG300 rides really nicely and makes excellent trail power but it seems to sign off a little early on the top. It looks like he can drop to a 160 Main pretty easily to go with the 45 pilot and N1EI needle. The differences between the 2 bikes (apart from the motor) is how solid the handling is on the 2010. The 2010 seems to be more nimble than the 2007 and more precise with the steering. The suspension (Sachs front and rear) also works pretty well at the box stock settings. Hopefully, Bob will write a ride report some day for his own view on things!

Yuck it up, Mudwasp...I deserve it! I swear I still have some of that mud and grit underneath my toenails as they look brown around the edges! When are our riding groups going to do a GG trail ride up in the mountains?

Good question! I think we are going to Sidney Ne this weekend to help with the enduro-after that it might be fun to meet up. We are not especially great riders so it would have to be moderate to sissy terrain. I understand the high country is starting to open up.

Mudwasp,

Don't worry about "sissy terrain" as we will suit the riding to the riders. We have everything from Expert to novice (Jack just turned 69 years old this week!) and we just like to ride. It will be fun!
